I brought in a photo of a haircut that was wrong for my head shape and Sylvie talked me out of it in the kindest possible way. Eleven visits later I have never once had to fix her work at home.

The price list
Four things, done
properly.
Prices are what you pay — no tiers, no upsell at the bowl. Every appointment opens with a fifteen-minute consultation, and long-hair or high-density work is quoted before a single clip goes in, never after.
Cut & Finish
Every cut starts dry, standing up, so the shape is judged the way you actually wear it — not flattened under water.
Precision Dry Cut
Consultation, dry cut, finish. Includes a follow-up tweak inside three weeks.
Cut & Blow-Dry
The dry cut plus a full smooth or bend-out finish with a wash and scalp massage.
Editorial Blow-Dry
Round-brush body, soft root lift, no curling iron. Holds through a long evening.
Fringe Reshape
Between-visit maintenance for anyone with a fringe cut here. Walk-ins welcome Wednesdays.
Colour
Hand-painted, low-lift, and mapped to how often you can realistically come back. Nothing that demands a six-week leash.
Lived-In Balayage, Full
Free-hand painted from the mid-lengths, gloss, and a bond treatment. Grows out for four to five months.
Balayage, Half Head
Face-framing and crown only — brightness where the light hits, less commitment.
Single-Process Root Refresh
Grey coverage or depth at the root, blended into existing lengths.
Gloss & Tone
Shine, tone correction, and warmth control. The eight-week tune-up between big appointments.
Colour Correction
Box-dye reversals, banding, and grown-out ombré. Booked only after a paid consultation.
Texture & Repair
Curls are cut curl-by-curl, dry, with no tension. Treatments are chosen after a strand test, not sold on arrival.
Curl-Specific Shaping
Dry, curl-by-curl carving for 2B through 4C, plus a wash-day routine written down for you.
Keratin Smoothing
Formaldehyde-free smoothing that softens frizz without erasing movement. Lasts twelve weeks or so.
Bond Repair Ritual
Three-step rebuild for over-processed lengths. Added to any colour service for $44.
Scalp Detox & Steam
Clarifying massage, steam, and a light oil seal. Recommended quarterly.
Bridal & Occasion
One wedding party per weekend so nobody is rushed. Trials happen in the studio; the day itself we come to you.
Bridal Trial
Ninety minutes to test two directions, photographed from every angle so nothing is a surprise.
Wedding Day Styling
On location within Cook County. Travel and a second pair of hands quoted per party size.
Event Updo
Galas, portraits, and the occasional very good dinner. Pinned to survive a coat check.
Before you book
New colour clients start with a paid consultation — $35, credited back against the service. It covers a strand test, a look at what is already on your hair, and an honest answer about how many sessions the photo on your phone will actually take.
Lookbook
Grown-out,
not fresh out.
Most of these were photographed weeks or months after the appointment. A cut that only looks right on the day you leave the chair is not finished work.

The studio
Two chairs, one
unhurried hour.
Sylvie Marchetti spent three years apprenticing in Milan being told to stop reaching for the scissors and start looking at how hair falls on its own. That habit became the whole method here: every cut is judged dry, standing, in the light you actually live in.
Hair Studio opened in 2016 on the second floor of a former letterpress shop on Hermitage — hence the wooden floors that creak in exactly one spot. There are two chairs and never more than two clients in the room, which means nobody is parked under a dryer while someone else gets the attention.
Colour is deliberately low-maintenance. If you can only get back here twice a year, the work gets mapped to twice a year. Nobody leaves with a schedule they can’t keep, and nothing is sold at the shampoo bowl.
“I would rather talk you out of a haircut than watch you fight it every morning for four months.”

In their words
Regulars, mostly
by word of mouth.
Hair Studio has never run an ad. The chair fills because people tell their friends, which is a slower way to grow and a much better one.
My curls had been cut wet by five different people and I had given up. She worked through them one at a time, dry, and wrote my wash routine on an index card I still have on the mirror.
Four months out from my balayage and the grow-out still looks deliberate. I used to book every six weeks out of panic. Now I come three times a year and spend less.
She did my trial in March, then drove to Pilsen at 6am in the rain for the wedding. My hair was the one thing that day that needed zero attention from me.

Four minutes on foot from Damen on the Brown Line; the #50 bus stops at Montrose and Damen.
Free two-hour street parking on Hermitage after 09:00. Ring buzzer 2R — the stairwell door sticks in humid weather, push firmly.
Arriving
Come with your hair as you normally wear it — unwashed is genuinely fine and often more useful. There is coffee and a very old armchair.
Cancellations
Forty-eight hours, no charge. Inside that window, half the service is billed, because the chair rarely refills the same week.
Payment
Card, cash, or tap. Tipping is welcome but never expected, and it is split with whoever assisted that day.
Access
The studio is up one flight with no lift. Sylvie also does home visits within four miles for anyone who needs them — just ask.
